Re:        IDPH Competency Plan/CME hours

According to IDPH rules & regulations for Trauma Centers, a professional staff competency plan needs to be maintained for Trauma Surgeons and Emergency Medicine Physicians treating trauma patients.  I am putting together and maintaining this plan.  Part of the requirements for this competency plan is successful completion of trauma-related CME continuing education.  This includes 20 hours every 2 years for Trauma Surgeons, and 10 hours every 1 year for Emergency Medicine Physicians.

Enclosed you will find a letter to sign.  This letter indicates that you have the required trauma CME hours.  Please sign the letter, and return it to me.  I will be sending out a new letter for you to sign every year for Emergency Medicine Physicians, and every two years for Trauma Surgeons.  It will be your responsibility to prove the CME hours if requested by IDPH.  Signing the letter will not get you out of producing your hours if requested.

I have also enclosed a copy of the IDPH guidelines for the competency plan.  If you would like to view the plan, or see how I am tracking specific outcome measurements, I would be happy to go over the entire plan with you.

If you have any other questions, please feel free to contact me.  Thank you for your cooperation in this important matter.
